We are almost there…help us cross the finish line! As you may recall, the NJ legislature passed a historic tax credit bill with strong bi-partisan support in 2011, only to have it vetoed by the then-Governor. Now, the state has a new Governor, who has expressed support for a historic tax credit on several occasions. This October, the “Historic Property Reinvestment Act” was passed out of Senate Committee, bringing NJ one step closer to finally getting an historic tax credit program. Preservation New Jersey (PNJ) will continue to work with the legislature and the Governor’s office to ensure it succeeds this time around!
New Jersey enjoys a tremendous wealth of historic resources – 58 National Historic Landmarks in 17 different counties and thousands of local sites and districts. But, despite federal and state legislation with programs offering protection…there are still countless historic resources being threatened with loss. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, PNJ has been able to participate in the state’s historic tax credit effort, in addition to other advocacy initiatives both locally and federally. We also continue to provide technical assistance and advocacy for endangered sites, such as the Union Hotel, the Glimmer Glass Bridge, and Montclair’s Lackawanna Station. And in 2019, we look forward to celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 10 Most Endangered Historic Sites of New Jersey!
Please take a moment today to make your 100% tax-deductible year-end contribution to Preservation New Jersey. Your crucial assistance provides us the opportunity and resources to combat ever-dwindling funding for historic preservation and to campaign on behalf of these critical cultural resources that are threatened. Without your continued support for PNJ, some of the most beautiful, important, and memorable places in New Jersey would no longer be here for future generations to experience and cherish.
Thank you for making a timely commitment to safeguard New Jersey‘s treasured places.
Respectfully yours,
Barton Ross, AIA, AICP, LEED AP
